The Client had multiple / disparate instances of Atlassian Jira running, which they obtained from acquisitions, mergers and needed to consolidate their Jira instances.

The Client is a US based hightech / medical device manufacturing company with facilities in US and Asia Pacific.
Challenge:
Client was using disparate instances of Jira for their multiple software teams, with multiple projects. All the project schemes, workflows, configuration and the issues had to be migrated without impacting or losing any of the listed items due to internal governance requirements.
Solution

Client has been using Jira for many years for many of their software engineering teams for their projects, their instances grew as the teams grew and with mergers and acquisitions. The business requirement was to consolidate all of them under one umbrella without losing the users, user privileges, team structures, lists and issues with the proper hierarchy of tree.Client was considering primitive data dump and restore from a database, but the methodology was changed upon hiring TechTiera for this engagement. Atlassian recommends running the standard scripts for migrating the standard instances, but that migration path doesn’t work in this case as the systems were disparate. TechTiera team was able to quickly develop the custom scripts to perform XML backups and then do the import of the actual projects in to the newly built instance. The key challenge was to import the data from the custom plugins, which standard Atlassian migration path does not support. TechTiera team has created custom scripts for migrating the data from Plugins. Access authentication was integrated with their existing identity management software and users are not required to authenticate multiple times to login to their confluence instances.

The entire migration was completed in record time and TechTiera is currently supporting and maintaining their Jira instances along with other Atlassian toolstack in their environment.
