What is Hyland Alfresco?
Hyland Alfresco is an open, API-first content services platform owned by Hyland since 2020. It includes Alfresco Content Services (ACS) for document and records management, Alfresco Process Services (APS) for BPMN workflow, Alfresco Governance Services (AGS) for DoD 5015.2-style records management and the Alfresco Digital Workspace (ADW) user interface. It runs on-premises, on Docker and Kubernetes in your own cloud, or as a Hyland-managed cloud service. TechTiera upgrades, extends, integrates, migrates and supports Alfresco.

How TechTiera approaches Alfresco work
Upgrading Alfresco without surprises
Most Alfresco upgrades stall on the same four issues. TechTiera plans for them before the first server is built:
- Customizations. In-process AMP and JAR extensions are inventoried and, where possible, re-implemented with the out-of-process extension model so future upgrades are simpler.
- Search. Index rebuild time is estimated on production volumes, and moves from Solr to Alfresco Search Enterprise (Elasticsearch) are rehearsed.
- User interface. Share customizations are mapped to Digital Workspace or ADF equivalents, with a plan for anything that has no direct match.
- Data. Full rehearsals on a copy of production prove timings and rollback before cut-over.
Leaving Alfresco, or moving onto it
TechTiera's DocOrbit migration product moves content, versions, metadata, permissions and audit history into or out of Alfresco, for example from Documentum, file shares or legacy SharePoint into Alfresco, or from Alfresco to SharePoint Online or Hyland's Content Innovation Cloud. Every object is checksum-validated and reported.
Typical Alfresco use cases
- Contract and policy management
- Engineering and project document control
- Case files for government and insurance
- Records retention and legal hold
- Digital mailroom with capture integration
- Content hub behind portals and apps
