Organizations running SAP BusinessObjects typically have three options: upgrade and continue on BusinessObjects BI, adopt a hybrid model in which SAP Analytics Cloud handles interactive analysis while BusinessObjects keeps fixed-format reporting, or migrate reports to SAP Analytics Cloud or another BI platform. The right choice starts with an inventory of reports, universes, users and dependencies.
Start with an inventory
List reports, universes, connections, schedules, users and usage. Many landscapes contain unused or duplicate reports; retiring them reduces the scope of any upgrade or migration.
Option 1: Upgrade and continue
Upgrading to the current BusinessObjects release keeps proven reporting and scheduling in place. It requires planning for universe compatibility, including UNV to UNX conversion where relevant, and testing of critical reports.
Option 2: Hybrid with SAP Analytics Cloud
Many organizations use SAP Analytics Cloud for dashboards, self-service analysis and planning while BusinessObjects continues to serve high-volume, fixed-format and scheduled reporting.
Option 3: Migrate
Migrating to SAP Analytics Cloud or another BI platform means redesigning content for the new tool rather than converting it one-to-one. Prioritize by business value, reconcile results against existing reports and retire legacy content in stages.
