In short

What is Implementation and Managed Services?

Microsoft 365 implementation and managed services cover designing and configuring a Microsoft 365 tenant (Entra ID identity, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Intune and security baselines), migrating users and mailboxes into it, and then operating it under a service-level agreement. TechTiera delivers all three stages, plus Microsoft licensing, as a single accountable engagement.

Implementation & Managed Services

What does a Microsoft 365 implementation include?

A sound implementation is mostly decisions made before anyone is migrated. We treat the tenant as production infrastructure from day one and document every design choice so your team, auditors and future partners can follow it.

LayerWhat we design and buildWhy it matters
Tenant and domainsTenant naming, verified domains, data residency, Multi-Geo where needed, admin role model with Privileged Identity ManagementSome choices (tenant name, initial domain, geography) are hard or impossible to change later
IdentityEntra Connect / Cloud Sync, password hash sync or pass-through authentication, federation retirement, Conditional Access, phishing-resistant MFAEvery Microsoft 365 service depends on Entra ID; weak identity design is the most common root cause of incidents
MessagingExchange Online, hybrid with Exchange Server where required, mail flow, connectors, SPF/DKIM/DMARC, Defender for Office 365 policiesMail flow and authentication errors are what users notice first
CollaborationTeams policies and provisioning, SharePoint and OneDrive sharing settings, external access, information architectureDefault sharing settings are the main source of Copilot oversharing risk

Exchange Online design: the details that decide success

Exchange is where most migration programs win or lose user confidence. Our architects plan for the details generic project plans skip:

  • Hybrid or cut-over. We size the choice to mailbox count, coexistence length and on-premises dependencies. With Exchange Server 2016 and 2019 now out of support, we plan the path to Exchange Online or Exchange Server Subscription Edition only where a management server is still required.
  • Free/busy and coexistence. Organization relationships, OAuth and calendar sharing tested before the first batch moves.
  • Mail flow. Centralized vs. direct routing, third-party gateways, inbound connectors and MX cut-over sequencing with rollback.
  • Legacy protocols and applications. Inventory of apps still using basic authentication, SMTP relay or Exchange Web Services (EWS), with remediation to Microsoft Graph or modern authentication before they break.
  • Public folders, shared and resource mailboxes, archives and PSTs. Each has its own migration path and permission model; we treat them as separate workstreams.
  • Email authentication. SPF, DKIM and DMARC moved toward enforcement to meet bulk-sender requirements from major mailbox providers.

Implementation & Managed Services

What do Microsoft 365 managed services cover?

Go-live is the start of the expensive part. Microsoft ships changes to Microsoft 365 every week, and an unmanaged tenant drifts from its secure baseline within months. Our managed service keeps it aligned.

MonitoringService health, mail flow, sync health, license consumption, Secure Score drift, sign-in anomalies

Questions, answered

Implementation & Managed Services FAQs

How long does a Microsoft 365 implementation take?

A tenant foundation (identity, security baselines, Exchange Online and Teams configuration) typically takes 4 to 8 weeks. User and mailbox migration then runs in waves sized to your volume, so a 2,000-user organization often completes in 2 to 4 months end to end.

Do we need Exchange hybrid to move to Exchange Online?

Not always. Organizations under a few hundred mailboxes with short coexistence can use a cut-over or staged migration. Larger estates, those needing free/busy coexistence, or those keeping on-premises applications that relay mail usually benefit from hybrid during the transition.

Can TechTiera provide Microsoft 365 licenses as well as services?

Yes. TechTiera can advise on and supply Microsoft 365 licensing, including E3, E5, Business Premium, Copilot and security add-ons, and then right-size it after deployment so you stop paying for unused seats.

What happens after go-live?

Your tenant moves into TechTiera managed services with monitoring, L1 to L3 support, change management for Microsoft's weekly updates, and monthly reports on health, security posture and license use.

Can you take over a tenant another partner built?

Yes. We start with a tenant health assessment covering identity, Conditional Access, mail flow, sharing settings and Secure Score, fix high-risk gaps first, then transition support with documented runbooks.

Do you support co-managed models with our internal IT team?

Yes. Many clients keep L1 internally and use TechTiera for L2/L3 engineering, Microsoft escalations and change management. Responsibilities are defined in a RACI agreed during onboarding.
